Iconic golfer Gary Player had a dream. Enlist the course design geniuses of champions Nicklaus and Palmer and together transform an untouched timber plot along the Savannah River into three spectacular courses.
Today that dream is a reality. And members at Champions Retreat relish the challenging terrains of the Island, Bluff and Creek courses as they meander through 375-acres of Georgia pines, wetlands and the South’s most captivating landscape.
The Bluff
“This is the kind of site that provides you the opportunity to design a golf course that on opening day will appear as if it has been there for 50 years. There is a great deal of variety in the routing, with this nine featuring uphill and downhill shots, as well as a balance of right-to-left and left-to-right holes.”

“The Island Nine is flanked on one side by the broad Savannah River and on the other side by the Little River. The spectacular hardwoods and pines along the river bank have been saved and the fairways have been raised to take advantage of the beautiful vistas out in the rivers. The Creek
“The site for the Creek Nine at Champions Retreat offered so many opportunities for a wonderful golf course. The opening four holes play a beautiful wetland area while the remaining holes move upland through native hardwood trees. The ninth dramatically plays over and around a large lake on the right. All level players will finish the nine with a variety of shot-making challenges.”

Prestigious Playing Partners
Champions Retreat’s extensive golf heritage and reputation for world-class play has been acknowledged by our selection as the host course for the first 36 holes of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
This prestigious new tournament premiered in 2019, with Jennifer Kupcho claiming the inaugural ANWA championship trophy during an exciting final round taking place at Augusta National Golf Club. Champions Retreat will continue its role as first- and second-rounds host during this April’s ANWA tournament.
Experience Masters Week at Champions Retreat
This year, we will invite a limited number of Masters Week patrons to Champions Retreat as our special guests, enjoying exclusive golf, dining and entertainment during the game’s greatest week. This opportunity is a coveted corporate or personal experience that is usually only available to our Members.
